These cropped red trousers are probably one of the most comfortable items in my wardrobe right now. I never thought I would be reaching for an elasticated waist in my 30s, but there you go. Last time I wore these trousers, I paired them with a pink jacket. My love of the pink and red trend is strong, but here I’ve gone back to one of my favourite combos. Red, white, black and leopard print are probably the most worn colours and print in my wardrobe and I love how they can be styled for every season.
A simple white T shirt goes with so much, and immediately makes a darker outfit seem a bit more summery. Here I’ve tucked it into the waistband of these trousers to show the belt tie detailing. Tucking in a top to a higher waistline totally changes the proportions of an outfit. Since I’m quite short, the cropped length of these trousers isn’t nearly as short as it is on the models. Tucking in a top can help to streamline the silhouette and stops shorter legs like mine looking stumpy.
I love leopard print. I know it’s not to everyone’s taste, but there’s something about the retro vibes of this print that I’m constantly drawn to. It comes into fashion every few seasons but always has a place in my wardrobe. For me, a hint of animal print adds a touch of character to an otherwise plain outfit. Here I’ve paired this faux-fur collared shrug with my favourite moto jacket. The collar sits really well with the neckline of the jacket, and the cropped length compliments the higher waist of the trousers.
My second pop of leopard print is from these shoes which I’ve raved about so many times. I always get compliments on them – I think because they’re alternative without being too “out there”. Now they’re broken in, they’re the most comfy things ever. They’re smart enough to dress up a casual outfit but casual enough to wear with jeans and not look out of place. I’ve got a feeling these will be in my collection until they literally fall to pieces, which I’m hoping doesn’t happen any time soon!
