Pleated Velvet Skirt and Collectif Jacket

I’m wearing 2 new pieces today from my shopping expeditions over the Christmas break. The rest of my outfit is some age old pieces that I still love and wear regularly. Mixing the new with the old: it’s what I do!

The first new purchase is this gorgeous dark jade pleated velvet skirt from none other than Marks & Spencer! I’d been lusting after velvet pieces for a while and when I saw this in the sale rack I couldn’t resist. Sadly, they only had one left and it’s a size too big, but since it’s pleated, I can tuck the excess into my belt and just about get away with it!

The other new item I’m wearing is this cropped, hooded jacket from Collectif. I originally saw it featured by the delectable Miss Amy May, so when Collectif announced their big winter sale it went straight in my online shopping basket. It’s soft, fits perfectly and is a great length for a cinched in look with a waist belt like this one from Accessorize I’ve had for years. There’s even an extra 30% off on the website now, making it a totally bargainous piece.

Another item I’ve had for years is this lace-back jumper from New Look. I sometimes wear a bright top underneath to make the lace pop, but I like how the subtle detail works with this outfit without a colour showing through.

I’ve added some reallly old boots I picked up from Principles in the sales years and years ago. I like to wear skirts in winter as well as jeans / dresses, but I don’t always like to wear tights, so to keep covered and warm I’ve gone for a knee high boot with this midi skirt. The heel height of these Victorian style lace ups is perfect to balance the outfit but also comfortable enough to walk in all day. My look is finished off with a metallic white and gold leather belt, and a pale gold scarf that I picked up from a colleague in a random work scarf swap.

Although the light wasn’t great today, I’m really glad it was quiet along this little London side street to give me a chance to grab some snaps – how cute are the murals behind me? I love finding new spots to take pictures for my Instagram and blog near my work. I only have an hour’s lunch break but there’s so many great spots around my little area of London that I’m lucky to have quite a choice of backgrounds!
