A sunny start to the week got me a bit over excited about wearing less wintery clothes. I pulled this denim mini skirt and white shirt out of the wardrobe with a thin jumper for a kind of preppy look to start the week. The trouble is, it’s still really cold so I’ve added knee high boots, tights and a duffle coat for warmth.
I really like the look of a shirt layered under a jumper. It’s the sort of smart casual that fits with my style and allows that all important layering for colder days. This loose fit shirt from H&M is definitely a more casual choice of tailoring, which I think works with the denim and casual grey knit. My old denim mini that was a staple in my wardrobe pretty much fell to pieces, so I replaced it with this ebay Topshop bargain. Some might say it’s a little short for the office, but I think I can just about get away with it paired with thick tights, flats and a modest neckline.
I’ve spoken previously about how I’ve found this jacket difficult to wear. I love the navy and red checked lining, but I’ve tended to always try and match it with a navy and red outfit. Today, it just seemed to fit with the denim and grey, and I like how it adds to the preppy overall look. When it’s done up, it really is quite cosy, so it was the perfect choice to throw on over thin layers on a sunny but chilly February day.
These boots have been languishing at the back of my wardrobe for a while. The zip detail at the back is a little bit different but still subtle and understated. I often wear grey pieces as part of a neutral outfit, and this thrifted thin sweater is perfect for layering. I bought this H&M shirt last summer when I was on the hunt for the perfect white shirt. Sadly, this isn’t the perfect white shirt as the collar tends to fold over on itself, which is a little annoying. It’s still a good staple wardrobe item though, I like the longer hemline at the back and the lightweight cotton fabric.
